Netflix has dropped the trailer for their upcoming film Blonde, starring Ana de Armas as she transforms into the legendary Marilyn Monroe.
Directed by Andrew Dominik, the film is set to be a biopic based on the novel by Joyce Carol Oates. Viewers will see some of Monroe’s iconic moments including the photo of her in the white dress to the “Diamonds Are a Girl’s Best Friend” clip in Gentlemen Prefer Blondes. Through all the glamorous moments fans will also see the tragedy and despair the Hollywood star faced.
In a black and white scene, Armas says the line, “I can’t face doing another scene with Marilyn Monroe. Marilyn doesn’t exist. When I come out of my dressing room, I’m Norma Jean.” The clip implies the actress doesn’t want to keep up with the persona that is Marilyn Monroe, and just wants to be the girl she grew up as.
The trailer then flashes various clips as the words “Watched by all, seen by none” are cut in between. This means that fans will get to see a Marilyn Monroe they may not have seen before. The trailer ends with Armas sharing the line, “Marilyn Monroe only exists on the screen.”
The film is set to premiere at the Venice Film Festival this year before its release for movie lovers on September 28th exclusively on Netflix.
