PORTLAND, Ore. -- The saying is "Keep Portland Weird." It's a phrase residents and visitors are both familiar with because this city is full of surprises. You never know who you're going to find or what they'll be doing.
KATU's Mary Loos found a young man waiting for the MAX in the Lloyd District who might rather say, "Keep Portland Dancing." 17-year-old Brozie Lathan practices his "pop and lock" dance moves regularly as he waits for the train or bus.
"It's a good way to meet people," he says. "Opens up a lot of doors and a lot of people are just interested in seeing how others like to express themselves through their art, whatever they like to do the most."
Brozie has been dancing for nearly three years. He's mainly self-taught, watching YouTube videos for the moves he wants to learn. Then he spends hours practicing until he gets them just right. He says he's not focused on dance as a career right now, but says if the right opportunity came up, he'd go for it.
